My husband and I both grew up on or around farms and think that are pretty great things. Unfortunately, we no longer live close to any farms and our daughters know very little about the workings of a farm. Thankfully, we have the Pennsylvania Farm Show in our area and we visited this week. This show is the largest indoor agricultural exposition in the country, with nearly 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits and 300 commercial exhibits.
This sculpture is made out of approximately 1000 pounds of Land O Lake butter. Talk about a ton of butter!
In this area there was a lot of farm equipment on display. I thought is was super neat that they made field areas complete with crops to display some of the pieces.
Other areas had lots of farm animals and the kids had fun petting a lot of the animals. My favorite area is where people enter baked goods and home canned items. There were so many beautiful jars of fruits and vegetables on display.
I learned an interesting fact while visiting the show. The great state of Pennsylvania that we live in is the mushroom capital of the world. I knew mushrooms are a big crop here but I would have never thought it was the capital of the world.
The best way to end a visit to the Farm Show is with a yummy cup of free Turkey Hill ice cream.
