Reader Kay shared with me her recipe for homemade fabric softener. I couldn’t wait to give it a try. I mixed a batch up and love it, it is inexpensive to make and works excellent.
The ingredients are all things you probably already have on hand: water, white vinegar, hair conditioner, and an empty bottle (I used a fabric softener bottle). The only ingredient I paid for was the vinegar and it cost me $0.41 for the amount used in the recipe. I’m not sure where you could buy fabric softener for $0.41 a bottle.
You will smell the vinegar after you have everything mixed up, but when the wash comes out you will not smell it at all. Did you know vinegar is a natural cleanser which also softens fabrics, preserves their color, while fighting odors?
I would love to hear if you try this recipe and your thoughts on it.
